Engineering Co-op Program

Cornell's Engineering Co-op Program "integrates a student's academic and career interests with paid, productive work experience in cooperating organizations." Co-op is a two-part assignment, in which students work full-time for one semester and one summer.

Most students take a semester's worth of courses during the summer after sophomore year; work during the Fall of their junior year; return to campus for the Spring of their junior year; and rejoin their Co-op employer the summer following their junior year.

Students who are ahead in their academic programs?because of AP credit or "overloading"?can opt to work a Spring Co-op instead of the traditional Fall/Summer. These students will start their Co-op work assignments during the Spring semester of their junior year and work through the end of the summer, with no break in between and no requirement for summer coursework.

Students who complete the Co-op Program spend their entire senior year on campus and graduate with nearly 8 months of valuable paid and productive work experience.
