Advertising and Promoting Your Company

The staff in Cornell Career Services are eager to help you build on-campus visibility for your company. You may find the following information helpful as you develop your strategy. Please get in touch with the office where you will be recruiting for additional assistance.

Advertise in our Career Guide

We produce a comprehensive Career Guide annually that we distribute to over 10,000 students at all levels. An ad in this publication increases your name recognition among our student population and at the same time provides valuable support to our programming.

Ad space reservations and materials are due December 1. Download information on advertising rates. For more information, contact Demetra Dentes, Senior Associate Director of Employer and Alumni Relations, dd21@cornell.edu, 607/255-7464.

Information Sessions and Presentations

General Information
Employer information sessions and presentations can greatly enhance your on-campus recruitment effort. Sessions early in the semester raise student awareness about your organization, thereby increasing the number of resumes submitted for an interview. A session held the night before a recruiting date allows recruiters to present key information to all students on a schedule at once and to meet other interested students if you choose an open format.

All sessions require advance preparation, and employers arrange these sessions directly. Let us know, though, if we can help you develop your strategy for reaching students through information sessions. We will be happy to publicize your session in Cornell CareerNet, so please provide the college career office with the final details as soon as they are available.

We'll need to know dates and details for events, including the name/division of company, location and time of session, preferred attire, whether food will be available, students you are targeting by major and class, and if the event is for interviewees only or open to all students. You'll find space on the Interview Confirmation Form (ICF) to provide these details. (Please note that alcohol should not be served at these events, in accordance with the NACE Principles for Professional Conduct for Career Services & Employment Professionals.)

Student Organizations Assisting with Information Sessions and Presentations
The College of Engineering has student groups that will help arrange sessions for a small fee. We encourage use of the student-arranged sessions. Most ILR (the School of Industrial and Labor Relations) presentations  are held in the ILR Conference Center.

The Statler Hotel
If you choose not to use a student organization, The Statler Hotel is a popular location for employer events and is located in the center of campus. To arrange a reception or presentation at The Statler Hotel, contact Alycia Dalton, Sales Manager, at 607/254-2600.

ILR Conference Center
Another popular location is the ILR Conference Center which is located in the center of campus.  To arrange a presentation at the ILR Conference Center, contact Ann Herson, Conference Manager at 607/255-4401.

Literature

Please forward recruiting literature (annual reports, videos, posters, company benefit summaries, etc.) directly to the college career office you will be visiting. Literature should be sent well before your recruiting visit so that students will have time to use it to prepare for their interviews.

Literature for information sessions set up at The Statler Hotel should be sent directly to the hotel. Call Statler Sales at 607/254-2678 for instructions. If the event is through a student organization, contact them.

Newspaper Ads

Employers often advertise on-campus visits or information sessions in The Cornell Daily Sun, an independent, morning newspaper edited by Cornell University undergraduates and published by The Cornell Daily Sun, Inc., 139 West State Street, Ithaca, NY 14850. The Sun is published Monday through Friday during the academic year, with a special issue for seniors in May. For more information call 607/273-3606 or visit www.cornelldailysun.com.

Posting Fliers

Depending on available space, the college career offices will try to post small (8-1/2" by 11") employer fliers. If you would like to have fliers posted throughout campus, contact Campus Promotions, a division of Student Agencies at 607/272-2000, extension 223.

Cornell Store Multi-Media Advertising

This high-traffic location in central campus has five video walls (Virtual Display Windows-VDWs). For information on advertising your company, see the Cornell Store website or contact Mike Goode at 607/255-8568 or media@cornell.edu.
