Advertising and Promotion

Employer Database and Employer Directory
An online searchable database informs students what employers will attend the career fairs. During the registration process, you'll enter a description of your organization and other information you'd like students to have in advance of the events (target audiences; work authorization requirements; hiring needs; etc.). You'll also enter a more concise employer overview (650-character maximum) for inclusion in a printed directory distributed to students at the career fair. Please prepare both entries in advance of registration; you will not have the opportunity to revise information once registration is complete. Inclusion in the Employer Directory is limited to employers who register by August 18.

Student Newspaper
Employers can also promote their organizations by advertising in the Cornell Daily Sun newspaper, which is now published on Monday (except Labor Day), Tuesday, and Thursday. Advertising rates, as well as other options to reach your target audience, are described in the Sun's media kit. Copy-ready ads are due one week in advance of the publication date.

Career Guide

Attendance

Student attendance at the University Career Fair Days has increased steadily over the past five years. Employers consistently tell us they speak with 100—150 students per day.

Attire

Attire is business casual. To protect the newly-renovated Barton Hall floor, please do not wear stiletto heels.

Cancellation Policy

A full or partial refund will be issued for cancellations received by August 16, according to the schedule below. All cancellations must be sent in writing to the Registration Coordinator and will be confirmed by email.

  • Cancellations received by August 1 will receive a full refund minus a $25 processing fee.
  • Cancellations received between August 2 and by August 16 will be assessed a $100 processing fee.
  • Cancellations received after August 16 will not receive a refund.

Copy Service

Copy service is available on campus at the Campus Copy and Supply Center in Statler Hall (607/257-3381) from 8:00 am—4:30 pm, or the The Campus Store; both locations are close to the career fair facility. For large orders, we recommend off-campus copy centers, including Gnomon Copy (607/273–3333) and Kinko's (800/463-3339).

Booths and Displays

Event Management
Cornell Career Services and employers participating in University Career Fair Days must adhere to all health, safety, and fire codes and regulations for event management as stipulated by Environmental Health & Safety.

Booth Size

A 6' table and 3 chairs are provided for each registration. Displays cannot be wider than 8' or have sharp edges touching the floor surface.

Electricity
There is limited access to electrical outlets in the facility so we encourage you to bring displays that do not require electricity. We will try to run extensions to all employers who indicate a need for electricity; but cannot guarantee this service. If you would like electricity, please be sure to indicate that on your registration form.

Network Connections
There are no network/internet connections in Barton Hall. Wireless service is usually available, although not guaranteed.

Set Up
Recruiters are responsible for setting up and tearing down displays, unpacking and repackaging materials, and arranging for return shipping; for details, refer to "Shipping." Career Fair booths may be set up the morning of event, from 8:30 am—9:45 am.

Facility Information

Located on the grounds of Cornell University, Barton Hall, is a large facility that houses the school's indoor track sports, Campus Police, and ROTC offices and classes.

Information Sessions

To assist employers in scheduling corporate presentations or information sessions that do not conflict with competitors' events, Cornell Career Services pre-approves dates for information sessions. Please contact Demetra Dentes via email or 607/255-7464 with date preferences before contacting the Statler Hotel or ILR Conference Center.

Light refreshments (9:00-10:00 am) and a buffet luncheon are included in the registration fee. A vegetarian option is offered.

Parking On Campus

Due to high traffic and the lack of parking in the area, note the following instructions:

Representatives arriving by automobile whose materials were shipped in advance should proceed directly to the TRB lot, with shuttle service offered every 10 minutes.

Representatives who need to unload materials for the event should drive to Barton Hall, 130 Statler Drive. Staff will be on hand to assist with unloading boxes, transporting materials to tables, and providing directions to the designated parking lot. A shuttle service will be provided from the TRB parking lot to Barton during the permit distribution period, and from the venue to the parking lot at the end of the career fair. you must move your vehicle to the designated permit areas immediately after unloading.

All area hotels offer a shuttle service, which is the most convenient way to avoid parking issues.

Parking Permits
One parking permit is included with registration. Career services staff will distribute permits (for career fair use only) at the entrance to the TRB lot during these periods:

  • September 6: 8:30 am—12:30 pm
  • September 7: 8:30 am—12:30 pm

Additional drivers, and those who do not arrive during the above times, will need to purchase a parking permit at an information booth and get directions to available parking areas. Permits are not distributed for post-career fair interviews.

All vehicles parked on-campus must display a permit; otherwise, vehicles may be towed.

Shuttle Service
We will provide regular shuttle service between TRB lot and Barton Hall during the designated permit distribution periods.

Shipping and Returning Career Fair Materials

Materials must be shipped in advance to a storage facility; Barton Hall and campus offices will not accept boxes for the career fair. Materials must reach Cornell by Friday, September 1 for the fairs. We cannot guarantee that materials received after these dates, shipped to an address other than the storage facility, or not marked as indicated will be available for use at the Career Fair.

Required Information on Labels
The COMPANY NAME and CAREER FAIR DATE (September 6 or 7)
must be included on each piece. We use the information marked on the outside of your package to locate packages and to ensure that materials are delivered to the correct booth, and for the correct event. We suggest packing return shipping labels in boxes.

Returning Materials
You are responsible for shipping boxes back to your company; all materials left behind will be discarded. Please bring the necessary shipping forms with you; these forms must include the account number and weight of shipment.

Two carriers provide regular pick-up and delivery service to Cornell:

  • Federal Express (800/463-3339) has scheduled pick-ups at The Statler Hotel.
  • UPS (800/742-5877) requires employers to call to arrange a pick-up.
