Extern Program
Application Procedure
Read and understand the Extern Program and Application Components as outlined on the Extern Program web pages and handouts.
Read the Round 2 Application Instructions and complete Step 1: Preliminary Application
by Monday, November 2. Note that there are three parts to this step in the application,
some of which should be completed before deadline times. Part 2, the on campus
Recruiting Tutorial is due by Friday, October 30 at noon. Part 3 must be completed
by Monday, November 2, with the application deadlines
staggered as follows: Sophomores—10:00 am; Juniors—12:00 noon; Seniors—2:00
pm. Step 2: Confirmation of Externship Match is due by 7:00 am, Thursday, November
12.
IMPORTANT: To avoid server delays or freezing due to volume overload on November 2, be
sure
to complete Step 1, Part 3 at least 12 hours prior to your deadline time! There
will be no extensions due to server accessibility problems.
Step 1: Preliminary Application (3-Part Process)
Part 1: Create Resume (one page only)
- Name your Extern resume according to this formula: NetID_Ext10_Rnd2.doc.
- Visit your college career office, 103/203 Barnes Hall, or CCS Resume Online Resources for advice, resources, and/or resume critique.
Part 2: Cornell CareerNet (CCNet)
- Update your Student Profile.
- Upload your Extern resume to your account.
- Complete the CCNet Tutorial by noon on Friday, October 30 if you are not already CCNet "Eligible." It takes
1—2
business
days after completing the tutorial to become CCNet eligible; a staff member must
confirm this manually. You will not be able to publish your resume if you are
not Eligible.
- Publish your one-page resume to the Cornell Extern Program Resume Book for the
current round. Under the "Documents" menu on CCNet, follow the prompts and select
the resume you wish to publish.
- Enter contact and academic information.

Read and agree to Extern Participation Agreement.

Enter Personal Introduction Essays:
- answer two questions about your academic and career interests, and about your
interest in the Extern Program.
(Tips: Proofread your answers on "preview" page, and save a back-up copy of your responses
as a Word document. See special format instructions for Personal Introduction
Essays if you must submit your answers via email due to server or system issues.)

Select up to 4 externship choices.
- If one of your choices lists "Other Requirements" or "Other Preferences," respond
to the prompts to explain in detail how you meet those specifications.
- Press the "Complete" button to submit application before the deadline.
Step 2: Confirmation of Externship Match
Placement Announcement: Monday, November 9, 4:00 pm
Step 2 Deadline: Wednesday, November 11, 7:00 am
You are responsible for checking the Decisions page on the target announcement
date. If you have been tentatively placed with an externship, you must complete
the following by the Step 2 deadline listed above:
- Indicate that you accept the specific Externship.
- Submit externship-specific essays in Part 4 of your online application:
- give specific reasons why you selected this Externship;
- list 7-10 questions you would like answered during your externship experience;
and
- describe some activities that would help you answer those questions.
- (Optional) Describe or list courses, jobs, volunteer experience, or anything
else not listed on your resume but relevant to this Externship.
