Nonprofit Internships Funded by Alumni

Cornell students can apply for a paid internship in one of several nonprofit agencies that serve children, adolescents, and/or families. The agencies, located in New York City or Westchester County, have been selected by the Blumenthals, an alumni family commited to developing paid opportunities for students to work in the nonprofit sector.

Students do not need to be work/study eligible to apply for these internships.

Participating Organizations

For summer 2009, there is funding for eleven students to intern with one of the following groups:

  • Child Care Council of Westchester/Institute for School Age Children, The (White Plains, NY)
  • Children's Village, The (Dobbs Ferry, NY)
  • Harlem RBI (NYC)
  • Lawyers for Children (NYC)
  • Let's Get Ready (NYC)
  • Mental Health Association of Westchester County (Elmsford, NY)
  • Pace Women's Justice Center (White Plains, NY)
  • Student Advocacy (Elmsford, NY)
  • Student Assistance Services, The (Tarrytown, NY)
  • Westchester Children's Association (White Plains, NY)
  • Westchester Jewish Community Services (White Plains, NY)
Requirements for Participation

Students must:

  • Have an interest in social justice and/or human service issues.
  • Work full-time for nine to ten weeks.
  • Be a sophomore or junior who will be graduating in January 2010 or later and who will register as a full-time student in Fall 2009.

Internship descriptions are listed on Cornell CareerNet (enter "Blumenthal" in the key-word search). Application instructions vary by employer and are included in the internship description.
