Teaching Positions

Many teaching options are available to grads, even if they don't have certification. In addition to Teach for America's two-year positions, there are programs in major cities such as the New York City Teaching Fellows. One-year teaching fellowships, including the Public Allies Fellowship and the Student Conservation Association Program, are listed on the Idealist.org website.

Other teaching fellowships are offered by private schools; see the "Private Schools" notebook in the CCS Library in 103 Barnes Hall. Many religiously oriented organizations offer year-long teacher placements, including the Catholic Network of Volunteer Services, Mennonite Central Committee, Jesuit Volunteer Corps, and the St. Vincent Pallotti Center.

AmeriCorps sponsors many informal teaching opportunities in all 50 states that typically provide an education award at the end of a year's service. There are additional opportunities in museums, nature centers, and even in business settings.
