Premed Alumni who Took Time Off

Alumni who eventually went to medical school report that there are many ways to spend time after graduation and before enrolling in medical school. You can link below to their stories.

Their reasons vary from needing time for a break, for clarifying career goals, for pursuing an activity of interest, or for improving credentials. In all cases they report positive results from the decision to take time off.

Taking time off was "a hard decision," but ended up being "a very positive experience."
"Everyone I know who took a year off feels better for it."
"I needed a stronger science GPA, and the post-bac did that for me."
"I wasn't completely sure I wanted to go to medical school."
"I hold multiple acceptances to allopathic medical schools," only a year after facing "waitlists and rejections."
"Do something worthwhile to YOU and not someone else."
“Decide what your weakest point is, then fix it.”
"Perhaps one of the best and most pivotal decisions I made."
“I thought working would provide me with a greater insight about how to combine my passion for social justice with a medical education.”
“Part of me felt like my peers were passing me by, like I was somehow falling behind schedule.”
“My dietetic internship was the best thing I could have done preceding medical school.”
"The journey has now become your most valuable attribute."
