Short-Term Options in Research

Many entry-level positions exist in a variety of research environments, especially in academia. These typically require a one- to two-year commitment. To locate research positions, use staff and faculty websites at universities, research institutes, and medical colleges to identify research of interest to you.

Send researchers an e-mail message with your cover letter and resume. Visit human resources pages at health-care-institution websites and apply for posted entry-level positions such as physician office assistant, session assistant, or research study assistant. Network with clinicians or researchers with whom you have worked or volunteered and with faculty and others you know on campus who might be aware of opportunities at Cornell and elsewhere.

Employers who have hired Cornell grads for research positions include the American Medical Association, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Devereux Foundation, American Museum of Natural History, and Weill Cornell Medical College.
