StrategiesThe strategies used to find short-term positions are the same as for a permanent
job, but the following considerations may influence which opportunities you pursue.
Assess what you would like to achieve through your short-term experience. Will you
gain more career-related knowledge through a longer-term opportunity or through
two or more shorter-term situations?
Evaluate commitment expectations by the organization. If, for example, a position includes
a nine-month training program and you are planning to work for only a year, then
this is not an appropriate position. Also, be prepared to respond to an interviewer?s
question about your long-term career goals and how the position would fit in.
Consider financial constraints. If you participate in an internship or volunteer, you may need an additional part-time job to support yourself. |
