Formal CU Programs
There are many summer programs that are designed specifically for or are especially suitable for Cornell students. We encourage you to check this page regularly, because we will update it as we obtain additional information.
Cornell Cooperative Extension offers summer internships throughout New York State, in a variety of specialty areas. The Tompkins County Association offers opportunities for students who want to spend the summer in the Ithaca area.
The Community Work Study Program (CWSP) is monitored by the Cornell Public Service Center and connects FWS eligible students with non-profit or community service employers in the Ithaca and Tompkins County area.
Cornell in Hollywood offers a number of film-related internships specifically for Cornell students thanks to Cornell alumni currently working in the film industry and the Cornell Club of Los Angeles. All majors are welcome to apply. Students arrange a faculty sponsor, who will receive the evaluation of the student's internship performance in order for a grade and credit to be assigned.
Cornell in Washington's Summer in Washington program offers an opportunity to earn credits, complete an internship, and explore the city. Normally, students participate in their junior year, or during the first semester of their senior year.
Cornell Summer on the Cuyahoga is an intensive summer immersion program in Cleveland, OH, open to students from Cornell, Case Western, Colgate, Ohio Wesleyan, Smith, University of Chicago, and Yale. It offers challenging internships, community introductions, alumni connections, and group housing for the summer. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors are eligible.
Cornell's Entrepreneurship at Cornell Summer Internship Program offers a 10-week internship program for students interested in gaining first-hand experience working for entrepreneurial companies. The Internship Program is open to Cornell undergraduates regardless of major and first-year MBA students. While preference is given to juniors and seniors, sophomores are also welcome to apply.
Cornell Plantations Internship Program offers internships in botanical collections, natural areas research, the wildflower garden, and education.
Cornell's Shoals Marine Laboratory offers unique opportunities for students to experience marine science through summer research internships and employment (in addition to summer courses) on Appledore Island, in the Gulf of Maine. College freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors in all majors may apply.
In the Cornell in Washington Urban Scholars Program, students can explore internships in Washington, DC.
Cornell's Urban Semester Program offers an option for an 8-week summer program in New York City that includes four-day internships plus seminars in multicultural and professional practice once each week. This is open to Cornell junior and senior undergraduate students from any college and any major.
The Janet McKinley '74 Family Grant is open to all Cornell sophomores to assist students in pursuing interesting, provocative, and entrepreneurial summer projects.
Project ION offers a variety of summer internships in Upstate New York to students from participating colleges and universities in the region.
The Office of Financial Aid and Student Employment assists students who are Federal Work Study eligible and would like to work for a faculty member or other on campus employer for the summer months.
