Creating Resumes and Cover Letters
Marketing Yourself
After you have set some career goals, you can begin to think about marketing yourself through a resume and job-search letters—whether for summer work, a part-time
job, or a full-time position after graduation. If you'll be continuing your education after graduating from Cornell, you may also need to develop a resume as part
of your application process.
How We Can Help You Get Started
Whatever your reason for needing a resume or cover letter, Cornell Career Services
can offer a great deal of assistance. Each year we produce an extensive publication
called the Career Guide, available in all of our offices. The guide provides excellent information about constructing resumes and letters,
including sample resumes of Cornell students we've worked with in the past. There
are also resources in our career libraries to help you create these documents.
Resume Review and Feedback
Using those resources in conjunction with the resources available on this site, students can often draft a copy of their resume and
cover letter. Once you have a draft (or if you need assistance getting started),
come in to one of our offices for a resume review. A career advisor will provide
feedback and make suggestions on content, presentation style, terminology, proofreading,
etc., to help you create the strongest documents possible.
