General Information

Background
The Cornell Alumnae Council was established by alumnae more than 20 years ago to organize a forum for graduates and graduating students to discuss career issues and the transition from university to workplace. Since then, Cornell alumnae have organized this series of informal events each winter break to introduce themselves to graduating seniors.

In this personal and supportive environment, the opportunity is created to exchange views and to welcome students into the Cornell network. Each year the dinner/brunch series has received enthusiastic reviews from participants. As a result, the program has grown annually to include  twenty-eight events across the country. In New York City, there are often two separate events on the same date. To participate, complete the Online Registration, from November 1—December 10.

Purpose
The purpose of the events is not to gain employment, but rather to provide a unique opportunity for students to meet alumnae representing a wide range of ages, career choices, and personal lifestyles. Discussion centers on the transition between life in college and life after Cornell (world of work or grad school). Topics discussed are both practical and issues related to women in the workplace. Alumnae, in turn, enjoy becoming acquainted and sharing experiences with young Cornellians and one another. Conversation is informal.

How You Can Attend
Each student who has been placed in a dinner or brunch will receive an email before leaving campus for winter break from Cornell Career Services giving the location and time of the event. Please note that by registering you are making a commitment to attend.

If you are not able to attend an event, please notify Nancy Law at NFL1@cornell.edu immediately so we might have time to move someone off the waiting list. The events promise to be entertaining and informative, and we hope that you will enjoy yourself.

Attendance Policy
Space at these events is limited. Students who register by November 30 will have priority for placement. If the event is over booked, seniors will have priority for placement.

The primary goal for assigning students to events is to get a range of career and extracurricular interests, as well as academic backgrounds; this factor is more important than your order of preference. To accomplish this goal, there is no priority given to students who register earlier than November 30.

Important Notes
Students will receive notice of their registration status (confirmed or alternate) by email during study week. Students who are confirmed to attend an event will also receive email confirmation and briefing details about the event (name of the hostess/directions/discussion topics) by December 10. It is the responsibility of students leaving campus before December 10 to contact Nancy Law at Career Services, 203 Barnes in order to arrange to pick up this information.

W
e do not have information on alumnae attending the events prior to the time of the event. (Cornell's Regional Offices handle the alumnae registration at the same time we are registering students for the events).
